Jerry Lucas SpeakerHall of Fame basketball player Jerry Lucas will be a guest spark at three events at First Presbyterian Church in Haines City, Florida on March 2-3, 2014. On March 2, Lucas will speak about “Improving Family Relationships,” during all three morning worship services at the church, and at 6:30 p.m. he will hold a workshop called “Learning Made Fun and Easy.” On March 3 he will hold another workshop called “How to Remember Names and Faces” at 6:30 p.m.

Since his retirement he has toured the country for decades, giving speeches about memory in more than 1,100 churches across the country, and in 1986, he wrote “The Memory Book.” During his unique speeches he teaches all people, young and old, to improve their memory through several techniques. He also shows them how to use those techniques to achieve a higher level of performance in their lives.

The public can learn more about Lucas’s experiences with sharpening memories at 5:30 p.m. on March 4 at First Presbyterian Church. “It’s more of a social type of thing where people can meet him and see what he’s all about,” said Barb Fazendin, a spokeswoman with First Presbyterian Church. “He is a very interesting speaker,” she said. “I’m sure everyone, especially seniors, would like to know how to improve their memory.”

Lucas was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1964 while playing with the Cincinnati Royals. During his 12 year career in the NBA he earned seven All-Star selections, three All-NBA First Team selections, two All-NBA Second Team selections, and helped the New York Knicks to the 1973 NBA Championship. In 1980 he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and was later named one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996.
