Gene KeadyHall of Fame college basketball coach Gene Keady will be the special guest speaker at the Carroll College men’s basketball overnight camp this year, which runs from June 17-20. Keady will be speaking on Friday, June 20, the final day of the camp.

Carroll College coach Carson Cunningham, who Keady coached at Purdue, said that the team is honored to have someone of Keady’s caliber as the camp’s guest speaker. Cunningham said Keady will share some of his basketball wisdom and discuss his philosophies. Keady, who coached at Purdue for 25 years, is renowned for his man-to-man defensive principles and motion offense.

“He’s kind of like a basketball Buddha in a lot of ways with his experience and number of coach of the year awards he’s won, and the number of Big Ten championships he has,” said Cunningham. “He has a unbelievable resume and decades of experience, and he can share with people about how to do things the right way, how to get ahead in life.”

In addition to speaking to the team, Keady, who is 78 years old, will accompany the team on the rafting trip scheduled for Saturday, June 21.

“It will be a chance in a less formal but active setting toy any out with each other and vista with coach Keady,” Cunningham said.

Gene Keady currently serves as an assistant coach at St. John’s University. During his 25 year stint as the head coach at Purdue University he led the Boilmakers to 6 Big Ten Championships and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year 7 times. A member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, NJCAA Hall of Fame, and Purdue Athletic Hall of Fame, Keady is considered one of the greatest college basketball coaches to have ever lived.
