Hall of fame Coach Jim Calhoun was the headline speaker for the 54th Annual Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association Clinic that happened on November 6th. To get into the event, tickets costed $40 and registration began at 8 a.m. sharp that day just prior to the Stonehill Men’s Basketball Team having their practice. There was a great turnout and Calhoun surely brought in a lot of people to come and see him, as well as hear about his experience as one of the country’s best university coaches.
The Braintree, MA native grew up as a standout athlete, as he participated in football, basketball, and baseball at his high school. Even though he was offered a sports scholarship to Lowell State, he decided to come home after just a few months so that he could support his mother and siblings following the death of his father. He began his coaching career in 1972 for Northeastern where he stayed for 14 years prior to going to the University of Connecticut for 26 years as a coach. He retired due to health problems, but is still doing well today.
Calhoun appeared at this year’s 54th Annual Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association Clinic that happened earlier this month, and he had an amazing turnout and was able to offer lots of words of wisdom.
