Hall of Famer Eddie Pope was the featured guest speaker at this year’s Wines of the World Cup event that happened on August 15 at Morrison Stadium in Omaha. This was a especially fun event for everyone who attended and having Pope there was a huge draw for a bigger audience. Whether or not the guests who went were soccer fans, it was a treat nonetheless to hear the soccer star tell his story about life on and off the pitch.
The North Carolina native was selected in the 1996 MLS Draft by D.C. United, but he had to split his first season between them and the USA Olympic team in order to prepare for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic games. With D.C. United he managed to help the team get their very first CONCACAF Champions Cup and InterAmerican Cup victories, which really put the MLS team on the map after that. Pope was also a part of the USA National Team for a decade and he managed to be a starter in every game that he played in.
Pope was the guest speaker for the Wines of the World Cup event that went on earlier this month in Omaha at Morrison Stadium, and it was a highly interesting and motivational talk for sorcerers and non-soccer fans alike.
