Former Ohio State University star and Heisman winner Troy Smith has been announced to be a keynote speaker at Kalahari Resort and Convention Center on July 10 for the “Walking the Talk” fundraising event in Sandusky. The speaking part of the vent will occur between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.and light snacks will be served, but there will also be a silent auction that will happen from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. as well. Tickets to the event will cost $55 per person and can be bought online or at a couple local locations in Huron, and all the earnings will go to benefiting the historic Greater Friendship Baptist Church in Cleveland. Smith is both excited and honored to be asked to speak at the fundraiser, as he is still somewhat of a local hero.
The 2006 Heisman trophy winner played in the quarterback position for OSU from 2003-2006, and in the 2007 NFL draft he was selected in the 5th round by the Baltimore Ravens with whom he played with for two seasons. Shortly after that he did a year on San Francisco’s roster, but as of 2013 he signed a two year contract with the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes. In 2006 during the peak of his career he also won several other awards such as the Associated Press Player of the Year, Unanimous All-American, Fiest Bowl MVP, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award, NCAA QB of the Year, and the Archie Griffin Award. Hopefully he will return back to the NFL in the near future to showcase his skills once again with some of the league’s biggest teams.
Smith will be the keynote speaker for the “Walking the Talk” fundraiser later this month at the Kalahari Resort and Convention Center in Sandusky, Ohio. Only a handful of men have won the Heisman trophy over the course of history so he is bound to have some amazing stories to tell and great pearls of wisdom about being tough each and every day.
