Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jeff Garcia will deliver the keynote address at the B.C. Lions annual Orange Helmet Awards dinner. The B.C. Lions are one of the historic franchises in Canadian Football League history, and with Garcia having led the Calgary Stampeders to a CFL Grey Cup in 1998, he is a perfect fit for the event.
“Jeff enjoyed a long and successful football career in both leagues and has an amazing story to tell,” said Jaime Teras, director of community relations for the event. “We have been very fortunate with the quality of speakers that have appeared at previous OHA’s and Jeff will undoubtedly provide us with an emotional and uplifting presentation.”
The 12th annual Orange Helmet Awards Dinner is set to take place on April 15 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia. The event is held each year to recognize outstanding coaches and individuals that have spent years supporting the development of the B.C. Lions franchise. To date, the event has raised over $750,000 for worthy causes in the community.
Garcia was a four-time NFL Pro Bowl selection and earned the PFWA Most Improved Player of the Year award in 2000 while playing with the 49ers. During his time in the Canadian Football League he was a standout performer, earning four Western Division All-Star selections and leading the Stampeders to a win in the 86th Grey Cup with an MVP performance.
