London appears to bring out all the Olympic Swimming Stars as news circles that 38-year-old former Stanford swimming star Jenny Thompson is in London making promotional appearances for sponsors. This Olympic sensation is enjoying the Olympics from a different perspective these days as she is expecting her first child next month. Being in London for the Olympic games has reminded Jenny just how electrifying it is to participate in the Olympics.

When Thompson finished her swimming career after the 2004 Athens Games, she owned more Olympic medals than any other American athlete in history (12), surpassing the 11 won by swimmers Mark Spitz and Matt Biond. At each of the two Olympics since Thompson’s retirement, she has seen another U.S. swimmer equal her record.

“Dara Torres tied me in 2008, and Natalie (Coughlin) did this year,” Thompson pointed out. “If Natalie chooses to keep swimming and breaks the record, I would admire her for it.”

Her amazing accomplishments have partially been out shadowed by the Legendary Michael Phelps. He recently closed his with a total of 22 medals, but Jenny Thompson only had great things to say about the Olympic Star:

“It was an incredible race. I was so happy for Michael to win the gold,” she said.

Fans of Jenny Thompson would be happy to know that she is now a practicing pediatric anesthesiologist in Maine. She also still actively makes appearances for her sponsors.
