Former MLB player Jim Morris has been announced as the keynote speaker for the Kansas Agri Business Expo that’s happening on November 17th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita. It will be an event, as he is scheduled to start speaking at 8:30 a.m. during the breakfast happening in the Eagle Ballrooms. Morris will be sharing his story about how he used pure determination to pursue his dreams of becoming a professional MLB player, which eventually became a Disney movie in 1992, titled “The Rookie”.
The Brownwood, Texas native is the son of a naval officer, so he grew up playing baseball in lots of different cities. When the family settled back in Brownwood, there was no opportunity to play baseball as there wasn’t a program for it, but he managed to still hang on to his dreams. At the age of 35, he decided to enter the 1999 amateur baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays where he was given a shot to be on the team. After appearing in 16 major league games, Morris was contracted to a minor-league team by the Los Angeles Dodgers but was released in the spring. He became the inspiration for the Disney movie, “The Rookie”, in which he was portrayed by Dennis Quaid.
Morris is scheduled to speak at this year’s Kansas Agribusiness Convention that’s happening on November 17th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Wichita, and it’s going to be a lot of fun for the entire audience.
