There is a new cyclist named “Armstrong” at the top now. That’s female rider, Kristin Armstrong who just won her second straight Olympic time trial gold medal. She was the defending champion who just tore up the 18-mile course south of London. Not to be confused with Lance Armstrong’s ex-wife, whose name is also named Kristin, which is very ironic.
After the race she said, “My mantra was, ‘You have to live with this ride,’” who briefly retired after the 2008 Beijing Olympics to start a family. “You’re only as good as your last result.”
“This is an amazing moment,” she said. “A lot of people ask me what the differences were between this and Beijing. I would say this was a much more difficult journey.”
Kristin is also one to give back to the sports that have given her such success. When she’s not training, she is a dedicated swimming instructor and coach. She serves as an ambassador to the YMCA of Boise, and tries to provide support and inspiration to the millions of Americans who suffer from arthritis.
After the Olympics, she will be another popular “Armstrong “ being booked for speaking engagements, appearances and product endorsements.
