When Lance Briggs was a high schooler at Elk Grove High School everyone knew he’d go on to do big things. Then he went on to the University of Arizona, became the star that everyone knew he’d be, and now he’s reached the pinnacle of athletic achievement in the NFL. He’s a seven-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Chicago Bears, a three-time NFL All-Pro and owns an NFC Championship ring. But even after all that success, he has not forgotten who first believed in him. The people in Elk Grove, California.
And to show his appreciation, he has returned time and again to hang out, host camps, and now provide a little home cooking. On Monday, September 1, Briggs got the day off from Bears camp to make another return to Elk Grove for the grand opening of his new barbecue restaurant, the Double Nickel Smokehouse, with double nickel paying homage to his NFL jersey number 55.
At the grand opening Briggs told the crowd of fans that showed up to make sure they brought their appetite.
“This is not the stop you want to make if you’re dieting,” said Briggs. “This is comfort food. It’s a great place with a great atmosphere, it’s really, really good food, too. This is now a must stop in Elk Grove.”
The restaurant served all the main courses at the grand opening and everyone left happy and full. If you are ever in Elk Grove make sure you check out the Double Nickel Smokehouse. You won’t be disappointed.
