Legendary NBA referee Joey Crawford held an officiating summit on Saturday July 23rd in Alexandria at the Alexandria Senior High School. High school sports officials traveled from all around the country to get to this gathering and listen to the keynote address that Crawford put together. The former referee gave a good speech on some of his career history as well as shared quite a few memorable and motivational stories from his time on the NBA courts.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native isn’t the first in his family to go into the sports field as his own father was an umpire for Major League Baseball. Before he reffed for the NBA, Crawford reffed at the high school level until he left for the pros in 1977 at the age of 26. In the year 2005, the referee hit a milestone as he officiated his 2000th game in November of that year and he is currently only one of six people in his profession to do so.
The former NBA officiator Joey Crawford recently traveled to Alexandria to host a summit for people who make all the calls in sports. Not only did he enjoy getting to talk a little bit more about his life and former career, but the audience and attendees got a lot of good information out of the event.
