Pittsburgh Steelers Jerome “The Bus” Bettis got to take part in this year’s Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 8th, as he joined the club with six other deserving former players to make this the largest ceremony since 1967. During his speech Bettis made sure to credit all of those people who helped him along the way including his family, coaches and fans. The Bus even took the time to note that his mother attended every game that he ever played in professionally and spoke about how both of his parents impacted him on his journey to success. Of course the night wouldn’t be complete without addressing the Steeler Nation, his fans, who cheered extra loudly from their seats as he spoke to them.
The six-time Pro Bowl player is originally from Detroit, Michigan and got his foot into the football world by playing for three years for one of the best collegiate football teams out there, Notre Dame. Instead of graduating and staying for his senior year he entered the 1993 NFL Draft where he was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams. He played for the Rams for two years before being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers where he remained for the rest of his 13 year career in the NFL. After retiring in 1995 he took up other sports related jobs such as being a studio commentator for NBC’s Football Night in America and hosting his own show called “The Jerome Bettis Show” which is aired on WPXI-TX. In addition to that he also has a restaurant in Pittsburgh, appropriately named “Jerome Bettis’ Grill 36”.
Bettis gave a great, lengthy talk at the August 8 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony and made sure to tell the world that he salutes his family and fans for helping him get there
