Lionel HollinsBrooklyn Nets new head coach, Lionel Hollins, will be traveling to Johannesburg, South Africa with Nets forward Andrei Kirilenko to help out at Basketball Without Borders Africa.

More than 50 players from 20 countries will travel from all corners of the continent to participate in the four- day camp, running from August 5-8. The players, ages 17 and under, were selected by FIBA, the NBA and partnering federations based on their basketball skills, leadership abilities and dedication to the sport.

Basketball Without Borders is an excellent program that provides comprehension instruction from a highly knowledgeable staff that will include more than 10 NBA players and coaches in addition to Hollins and Kirilenko. During the four days the campers will participate in basketball stations, daily scrimmages, and tournament play. But perhaps most importantly, the camp also offers daily life-skills seminars in partnership with Hoops 4 Hope on topics such as leadership, character development, gender equality, and HIV/AIDS prevention and education.

Lionel Hollins played 11 seasons in the NBA from 1975-1985 and was a part of the 1977 Portland Trail Blazers NBA Championship team. After his retirement he immediately began his coaching career and eventually worked his way up to being an NBA head coach. Hollins spent the last five years coaching the Memphis Grizzlies and was hired by the Nets on July 2, 2014 after leading the Grizzlies to an impressive 56-26 record in 2013-14.

Andrei Kirilenko was born and raised in Russia and came to the NBA in 2001 to join the Utah Jazz. During his first 11 seasons in the NBA from 2001-2011 he earned an All-Star appearance in 2004 and was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team three times. In 2011-12 he briefly returned to Russia before making his return to the NBA in 2012-13 with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kirilenko was signed by the Brooklyn Nets in 2013 and looks forward to the opportunity to play under Hollins next season.
