Dickey was said to be an easy choice for the National League honor in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America with the 38-year-old becoming the first knuckleball pitcher to win the Cy Young Award, an achievement mentors such as Hall of Famer Phil Niekro are quite proud of.
The 2012 NL strikeout leader said on MLB Network, “I am not a self-made man by any stretch of the imagination. This is a victory for all of us.”
Dickey was named to his first All-Star team this year as well, and gave Mets fans a reason to watch this past season, taking a landslide victory in the voting with 27 of the 32 votes.
