US Women’s National Soccer Team legend Mia Hamm was on hand at the Shelby County Sports Blast in Shelby, Alabama on Sunday, January 25, 2015. During the camp she ran through drills with the players, spoke about her career and provided advice and insight that will no doubt help the young soccer players achieve their dreams on the pitch.
Currently Hamm serves as a team instructor for TeamFirst Soccer Academy, which is dedicated to providing girls and young women an opportunity to develop as individual plays within a disciplined and unselfish team environment. Hamm joined TeamFirst in 2010 and is dedicated to helping youth soccer in any way she can.
“People have invested so much in U.S. Soccer,” Hamm said. “I just enjoy being able to return that favor now. I’m happy to be here and to this with my teammates.”
Many great players have represented United States soccer at the international level over the years, but there have been none greater than Mia Hamm. From 1987 to 2004 Hamm scored more international goals than any other player, male or female, in the history of U.S. soccer. In 2001 she earned the first of her consecutive FIFA World Player of the Year awards, which just so happened to be the first two years it was awarded. She capped her decorated career in 2004 by leading to the US women’s national soccer team to a second Olympic Gold Medal during her tenure.
