On Friday, a statue of Bob Uecker, the popular Milwaukee Brewers‘ broadcaster, was dedicated outside Miller Park.

The 77-year-old was affectionately dubbed “Mr. Baseball,” by Johnny Carson in the 1970s, and was a frequent guest on the late night talk show. Announcing Milwaukee games since 1971, Uecker joined Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Robin Yount and commissioner Bud Selig as the fourth person to have a statue outside the main gates.

Over half of the current Brewers’ players and the entire coaching staff turned out to watch as the 7-foot bronze statue was dedicated, and Uecker himself noted, “This is a good place to be. There are a lot of places that are warmer in the winter, but this place has been home to me for a long time.”

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig remarked, “He’s been the voice and face of this franchise, think about this, for more than four decades.”

Uecker and baseball have become synonymous like hot dogs and America’s pastime, it wouldn’t be the same without him.
