Patty MillsRecently crowned NBA champion Patrick Mills visited the Ceduna Youth Hub in Ceduna, Australia on Monday, August 4. During his visit Mills, a native of Ceduna, Australia, reconnected with his community and shared his life experiences with the youngsters, providing inspiration for them to one day reach their dreams as he has.

“It was very important for me to come out here and give some motivation, so you guys know it’s okay to dream and achieve your goals,” said Mills. “I’m no one special, I started out just the same, just a little kid running around Ceduna myself.”

The Ceduna Youth Hub is an organization for 12-25 year olds to engage education programs, better health and wellbeing, and most important a place to connect with peers and the community.

“We wanted the youth to be inspired about their future, whether it be sporting or academic goals,” said Ceduna Youth Hub coordinator Peter Jericho. “Not only is Patrick here to connect with his community but he will also be talking to a group of youth with attendance issues at school as well, he has really gone out of his way to make the most of his visit in Ceduna.”

Mills came to the United States in 2007 to play basketball at Saint Mary’s College of California and was drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2nd round of the 2009 NBA Draft. During his five years in the NBA he has averaged 7.3 points per game, including 10.2 points per game for last years San Antonio Spurs NBA Championship team. In July 2014, Mills was presented with the keys to his hometown of Canberra, Australia.
