Orlando Magic guard C.J. Watson was recently back in the Las Vegas area to host a youth basketball clinic, called “Hoops for Hope”. The camp took place at the Doolittle Community Center and was free for youngster to sign up, which many of them truly appreciated because they understand a lot of celebrities wouldn’t do such a thing for no cost. All the kids and Watson were on the court by 9 a.m., and they were able to work with the NBA star on basketball drills and getting more skilled at the game. Watson’s Quiet Storm Foundation was able to make this camp happen so that he would be able to give back to the current neighborhood kids right in his own hometown.
The Las Vegas, Nevada native has always had a big passion for basketball, and once he graduated from high school he attended the University of Tennessee where he played for four seasons. He entered the 2006 NBA Draft, and despite being a top notch basketball player he went undrafted. However, in 2008 he was signed on to become a part of the Golden State Warriors, which initially started out as a temporary gig and turned into a two season one. Over his career, Watson has also played for the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers and he is currently on the roster for the Orlando Magic.
Watson was back in his old stomping grounds of Las Vegas this summer in mid-July to host his annual Hoops for Hope basketball camp. All 199 of the kids who attended had a great time and look forward to returning next year.
