Yao Ming Speaking FeeRetired Houston Rockets center Yao Ming will be meeting with over 1,400 secondary school students and teachers on July 16 to provide some inspiration and positive reinforcement for them. The eight-time NBA All-Star will be discussing some of his personal experience playing basketball with the listeners and telling them about the biggest highlights of his career. In addition to that, Ming will be informing the students and teachers how important it is to set goals and some of his strategies for getting that done. His visit later this month is going to be co-organized by the Hong Kong-Shanghai Economic Development Association, the Education Bureau of the HKSAR government and the “Passing on the Torch” National Education Activities Platform.

The 7 foot 6’ athlete is originally from Shanghai, China and was the first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft where he was picked up by the Rockets and stayed with them for nine seasons. He is also a gold medalist Olympian for China’s National Team and a three-time FIBA Asian Championship MVP from the 2001, 2003 and 2005 tournaments. Ming retired from professional basketball in 2011 mostly due to some foot and ankle injuries that he sustained sometime in 2010. To this day he is one of the most well known and recognizable NBA players and has been referred to as a “bonding link” between both American and Chinese basketball fans.

The 2002 CBA champion will be going to Hong Kong in mid-July to speak to a group of students and teachers about his life as a professional athlete and offering some great advice as they continue on with their education and work.
