NBA veteran Vince Carter returned home once again to participate in his annual youth basketball camp in Daytona Beach, Florida. Despite living a busy life as a professional basketball player, he still makes it a priority to do this camp every year because he truly enjoys teaching young athletes and sharing his passion for basketball. Carter has been doing this camp every summer since 1998 and has formed a great relationship with the community and kids who attend each year. At the camp, youngsters learn to work together as a team, improve their basketball skills and form new friendships that hopefully last them a lifetime.
Carter got his career started when he played basketball for the University of North Carolina, and when he entered the 1998 NBA Draft he was selected as the 5th overall pick by the Golden State Warriors. However he was traded to the Toronto Raptors with whom he played with for six seasons. The 8-time NBA All-Star player also spent several other seasons playing for the New Jersey Nets, Orlando Magic, Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks, and the Memphis Grizzlies where he still is today. In addition to that, he played with Team USA at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and ended up bringing home the gold medal.
Carter makes it a priority to return home to Florida every summer to teach at his youth basketball camps that have been going on for 17th straight years now since his NBA debut. He is a great example to the kids who attend the camp, and teaches them a lot of tools to improve their basketball skills as they continue to work on their game.
