New England Patriots Matthew Slater has been honored in a new, big way at Fisher College in Boston by having a scholarship program named after him. Slater was this past spring’s commencement speaker for the Boston Bay College and really made an impact on the student body, which is why Fisher College has decided to make him a part of their newest award for furthering education. He is a true example of the values that the school represents both on and off of the field, which is why he is an ideal role model too. Students who wish to apply for the scholarship have until the end of this month to do so by submitting an essay on what drives them to succeed and complete their goals.
The California born football player was an athletic star in high school, and his talents carried on into his college years when he attended the University of California Los Angeles. By his junior year at UCLA he was a regular on the field which set him up nicely for the 2008 NFL draft where he was picked by the New England Patriots in the 5th round. Slater has been with the Patriots ever since and as of 2014 he was given a two-year contract to extend his role on the roster of the team. In addition to playing well on the field, Slater is also heavily active in community service for which he was recognized by Robert Kraft himself in 2013.
Slater was the inspiration for Fisher College’s newest scholarship program, as it is put in his name and students have until the end of this August to apply for this year’s award. The Patriot is a winner both on and off of the field and Fisher College is proud to have this association with him.
