NFL great Dan Marino has been announced as the keynote speaker for the 44th Annual Rady Jewish Community Center Sports Dinner that is happening on June 21 at the newly expanded RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The funds raised from tickets to the event will benefit the programming at the Rady JCC, which includes scholarships and subsidies for people and families in need. Marino is expected to tell an inspiring and powerful story about his amazing success in the NFL all while raising a son diagnosed with autism. There were many challenges that he faced in his home life and career with being away so much and having a physically demanding job, but somehow he managed to permanently engrave his name in the records books. Tickets for this event can be purchased by visiting the Rady JCC website, and there will also be a silent auction happening too.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native grew up a natural athlete in both football and baseball, and he was even drafted to play for the Kansas City Royals in 1979 but decided to pursue college football instead. He ended up attending the University of Pittsburgh and was a part of their football program from 1979 through 1982, before entering the 1983 NFL Draft where he was selected in the first round by the Los Angeles Express, but decided to sign with the Miami Dolphins instead. The nine-time Pro Bowl player held the record for the most touchdown passes for two decades before it was broken by Peyton Manning, as well as several other awards and achievements. After his 16 year long career in the NFL, Marino retired as a player and later returned to the Dolphins as the Senior Vice President of Football Operations for a short amount of time. In addition to that he has been a sports analyst for programs on CBS, and serves as a special advisers to the Dolphins as of 2014.
Marino will be appearing in Winnipeg, Canada this summer to talk about how his obstacles in life helped him grow and develop into the man he is today. He will be sharing a lot of personal stories that are meant to inspire others and help the Rady JCC raise funds to assist some of the more needing members of their community.
