Alan Page SpeakerNFL Hall of Fame defensive lineman Alan Page will be the keynote speaker at the La Crosse Community Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Viterbo University on Martin Luther King Day. His appearance, co-sponsored by the D.B. Reignhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership, will feature a speech by Page in which he will talk about the influence Martin Luther King Jr. had on his life and the process in which he got to where he is today.

Page Grew up in Canton, Ohio and starred in several sports in high school. While in high school Page worked on a construction team that erected the Pro Football Hall of Fame, laying the groundwork for the building where he would one day be immortalized as one of the greatest defensive lineman in NFL history. After high school he attended Notre Dame on a football scholarship and led the Fighting Irish to a National Championship in 1966. While at Notre Dame Page was a star both on the field and in the classroom. In 2002 he was inducted into the International Scholar-Athlete Hall of Fame for his commitment to academic success.

In 1967 he was selected int he 1st round by the Minnesota Vikings. During his 14 year career in the NFL he played for both the Vikings and the Bears and was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 1970 and 1971, NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1973, selected to the Pro Bowl nine times, and was a part of four NFC Championship teams.

Page earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1978 and began laying the groundwork for his legal career while still playing NFL football. After working for several law firms after his retirement from the NFL in 1981 he was named an Associate Justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court in 1992 where he remains today.
