Dan MarinoMiami Dolphins legendary quarterback Dan Marino was the featured speaker earlier this month at the first ever All-Stars Preps Best of Rock River Valley Banquet that happened on June 20 in Rockford, Illinois. The event was sponsored by Mercyhealth and had existed in the past for a while, however, it was only recently brought back into motion. The committee in charge of this fantastic banquet couldn’t think of anyone better than NFL star Dan Marino to be the speaker, and it was a huge success with everyone who went and got to hear what Marino had to say about his trials and accomplishments during his career.

The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native grew up a natural athlete in both football and baseball, and he was even drafted to play for the Kansas City Royals in 1979 but decided to pursue college football instead. He ended up attending the University of Pittsburgh and was a part of their football program from 1979 through 1982, before entering the 1983 NFL Draft where he was selected in the first round by the Los Angeles Express, but decided to sign with the Miami Dolphins instead. The nine-time Pro Bowl player held the record for the most touchdown passes for two decades before it was broken by Peyton Manning, as well as several other awards and achievements. After his 16 year long career in the NFL, Marino retired as a player and later returned to the Dolphins as the Senior Vice President of Football Operations for a short amount of time. In addition to that he has been a sports analyst for programs on CBS, and serves as a special advisers to the Dolphins as of 2014.

Marino was in Illinois earlier this summer to speak at the inaugural All-Star Preps Best of Rock River Valley Banquet that happened on June 20th. There’s no doubt that he was a great choice to resurrect this banquet and that and it was a lot of fun and informative as well.
