NFL Hall of Famer Jim Kelly was the keynote speaker for this year’s New Mexico Bowl that happened on December 16th at 11 a.m. at the Isleta Resort and Casino. The event Executive Director Jeff Siembieda commented that he was extremely pleased that they were able to get a hold of Kelly for this function and that he has a fantastic story to share with the audience and all of his fans. Not only was the five-time pro bowl quarterback a part of the NFL for over 11 years, but he has also beaten cancer twice in his life. It was a very heartfelt speech that is sure to resonate with the attendees for years to come, and a motivating way to kick off the football game.
The East Brady, Pennsylvania native was selected to play for the team after his USFL team, the Houston Gamblers, folded their franchise. From there he led the Bills to between the years of 1988 and 1995 and finished his career with over 35,000 yards thrown on the field for the NFL. The four-time AFC champion also had his number 12 jersey retired from the Buffalo team, which is the only time that the franchise has ever done the in their history. In addition to that, Kelly is the only quarterback in NFL history to bring his team to four consecutive Super Bowls even though they did not win any of them.
Kelly was this year’s keynote speaker for the New Mexico Bowl earlier this month, and his words of wisdom and inspiration were a great way to get into the holiday season. The football veteran was honored to be asked to be there and the coordinator was pleased that he could make it.
