This past month Operation Hope held their 10th annual Operation H.O.P.E. Foundation Banquet. The banquet featured one of the greatest receivers in both college and pro football history in Tim Brown. Operation Hope focuses on providing financial literacy for youth, financial capability for communities, and financial dignity for all.
The Dallas, Texas native Tim Brown didn’t begin playing high school football until his sophomore season at Woodrow Wilson High School, where he also was a standout track athlete as well. After high school, Brown went on to play for the University of Notre Dame where he won a Heisman trophy in 1987 by being an all-purpose threat and finishing his college career with a school record 5,024 all-purpose yards. When Brown left Notre Dame he had 19 school records and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009. The Los Angeles Raiders made Brown the sixth overall pick in the 1988 NFL Draft and although he was immediately a great returning it took a few years to develop into the number one receiver he became later in his career. From 1993 to 2001, Brown would rack up nine consecutive 1,000 yard seasons and made nine Pro-Bowls as well. In 2001, Brown became the oldest player in NFL history to return a punt for a touchdown and finished his career for the Raiders in 2004 as the franchise’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards, and punt return yards. In 2005, Brown signed a one day contract to retire as an Oakland Raider and still today sits atop NFL record books with nearly 15,000 receiving yards, over 1,000 receptions, 100 touchdown receptions, and nearly 20,000 all-purpose yards. Since his retirement Brown has been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and has dedicated a large amount of his time to philanthropic duties such as Athletes and Entertainers for Kids and then also becoming an analyst for ESPN College Football. Mr. Raider, Tim Brown, will be remembered in the football world as not only one of the greatest receivers in football history but one of the greatest football players period.
This last month, Tim Brown made an appearance and spoke at Operation H.O.P.E.’s Foundation Banquet. The event had an amazing showing of people and gave attendees the opportunity to hear from one of the greatest all-around football players to ever grace the field.
