Ohio State University football coach Urban Meyer will be attending a local football camp in Central Gwinnett as a guest coach, along with some of his current staff. The Central Gwinnett Elite Football Camp is scheduled for June 16 at the Lawrenceville High School in Georgia and will cost $25 per kid to participate if tickets are bought early, and $40 on the day of. This will be a one day skills-learning event that is designed to help local youth in grades 9 through 12 enhance their football techniques and learn a thing or two from the professionals. The three hour camp is expected to be very popular, and the staff will be forced to cap off it off once 500 participants have registered.
The Toledo, Ohio native was a star athlete in high school as he excelled at both football and baseball at the same time. He was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 1982 MLB Draft where he played two seasons playing on their minor league team while also playing the defensive back position for the University of Cincinatti’s football team. After graduating he went on to get his master’s degree from Ohio State in sports administration and began his coaching career in 1986 at that university. Between 1988 and 2012, Meyer coached at other universities such as the University of Illinois, Colorado State University, Notre Dame, Bowling Green, Utah, and Florida before taking the position he has now back at his old stomping grounds OSU.
Meyer will be in Gwinnett, Georgia this June to serve as an assistant coach for the Central Gwinnett Elite Football Camp. Registration will be limited to 500 players, so be sure to sign up when you get a chance!
