Olympic Gold Medal gymnast Aly Raisman spoke to a crowd of more than 80 aspiring gymnasts and their parents at Crystal Lake Gymnastics Training Center in Crystal Lake, Illinois on Saturday, April 26 about her career, and also offered some advice for their career.
At the 2012 London Olympics Raisman captained the US Women’s Gymnastics “Fierce Five” to a team Gold Medal and also won an individual Gold Medal in the floor exercise and a bronze in the balance beam. Relating her career to theirs, Raisman reminded the aspiring gymnasts that her career began the same as theirs, tumbling and practicing as a youngster at a gym just like theirs.
“When I was younger, I was always second, third or fourth,” Raisman said. “I didn’t always win. But I think things happen for a reason. It makes you work harder and harder. Don’t be discouraged because you can’t win every time.”
After speaking to the crowd and taking questions from her adoring fans who dream of achieving what she has in a highly competitive worldwide sport, Raisman took the time to meet with the girls and their families and pose for pictures. She even sought out several girls for a picture when she noticed they were a bit too nervous to meet her.
After taking some time to enjoy the fun and fame that came after Team USA’s success at the 2012 London Olympics, Raisman is now back in the gym training harder than ever to match that performance at the 2016 Rio games.
