Olympian Sugar Ray Leonard has been announced as a keynote speaker for next year’s 2017 American Gem Society (AGS) Conclave. The event will take place in the spring during April 5-8 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, CA. CEO of AGS and AGS Laboratories Ruth Batson said that they felt that Leonard would be a great source of motivation and inspiration for the people attending, and everyone looks forward to the content of his presentation as well as insights on how to overcome difficult situations. In addition to having the years as a professional athlete, Leonard has also dabbled as an actor and an entrepreneur with his own sports promotion firm.
The Wilmington, North Carolina native moved to Palmer Park when he was ten years old where he started boxing at the local recreation center in 1969. By 1972, he boxed in the featherweight quarterfinals of the National AAU Tournament and it was his first defeat of his career. However, over time and a few other loses, Leonard continued to train and eventually made the 1976 U.S. Olympic Team as the light welterweight representative and won the Olympic gold medal for his event.
Leonard will be speaking in the spring of next year at the 2017 AGS Conclave that is happening in Hollywood, California between April 5th and 8th. It’s going to be a very great and motivating speech, as if anyone knows a lot about how to overcome defeat, it’s Sugar Ray Leonard.
