Olympian Dot Richardson kicked off this year’s 2015 Subway Commonwealth Games that begun on July 17th at the Salem Red Sox Stadium. There will also be a Grand Home Furnishing Tailgate party that Subway will provide food for, along with fireworks, games, music, prizes and a parade of athletes that will precede the Salem Red Sox game. Right after the opening ceremony is when Richardson will give her speech to the audience to discuss her approach to life, and to help kick off the fun festivities of the weekend. The former athlete even brought along her medal to show everyone exactly what you can achieve for yourself and for your country.
The 53-year old Florida native went to Western Illinois University and the University of California Los Angeles for four years, before getting her master’s in physiology and health from Adelphi University in New York. All during the while of working hard to earn her education, she also took the time off to participate in the Atlanta Summer Olympics In 1996 and then again in 2000 for the Sydney events. She was one of the star players that helped the USA get the gold, and then went straight back to her career as a orthopedic surgeon. She is one of the few people in the world who has had an extremely intense medical career as well as being a professional athlete.
Richardson did a great job of showing enthusiasm and encouragement as her speech during the opening of the Subway Commonwealth Games. It was a fantastic and fun way to kick off an exciting summer event.
