Kerri Walsh Jennings, April Ross, Phil Dalhausser and Nick LucenaFour Olympic gold medalists traveled to New York earlier this month to take part, and dominate, this year’s annual AVP New York City Open in Manhattan’s west side at Hudson River Park’s Pier 26/25. The NYC portion of the tournament took place between the dates of June 16-19, and volleyball fans from across the spectrum showed up to watch the intense games that Kerri Walsh Jennings, April Ross, Phil Dalhausser, and Nick Lucena dominated. The women took a commanding first place with 750 points just as the men did, and both teams earned a nice cash sum of $15,000 for their games that were played.

Walsh Jennings is a California native and attended Stanford University on a volleyball scholarship. She has three Olympic gold medals from the games in 2004, 2008, and 2012 in the beach volleyball category and has also won several gold medals at World Championship games as well. Ross is also a California native and has a silver medal from the 2012 London Olympic games for beach volleyball. Dalhausser is yet another California native and has participated and won in several World Championship games for beach volleyball and won the gold medal for beach volleyball in 2008. As for Lucena, he is from Florida and has finished in the top five of 16 international competitions for the sport.

The two pairs of American volleyball stars had a chance to showcase their abilities once more this weekend in New York City, where they definitely were able to display the skills that won them so many competitions in the past several years.
