Carl Lewis AgentThis past month the nine time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis made a surprise appearance at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. It was the first time Lewis has made it to the event and as he stated seeing one of the older style wooden tracks was a missed sight.

Carl Lewis is a Birmingham, Texas native who had athletes a plenty in his family that included his mother who was a hurdler on the 1951 Pan-Am team and his sister who would also win an Olympic medal in 1984 participating in the long jump. Lewis elected to enroll at the University of Houston where he was coached by Tom Tellez and won a NCAA championship in 1980 participating in the long jump. After a boycott in the 1980 Olympic Games, Lewis’ first Olympic experience would come in 1984 in Los Angeles and he would enter into four different events with positive expectations of winning each event. Those expectations would become reality when Lewis won gold in the long jump, 4X100 meter, 200 meter, and 100 meter matching Jesse Owens feat in 1936 at the Olympic Games in Berlin. Lewis continued to rack up gold medals in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games with wins in the long jump and 100 meter. In the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games in Barcelona and Atlanta respectively, Lewis went back to his roots with gold medals in long jump in both games and a 4X100 meter gold in the Barcelona games. Lewis would finish his track and field career as a nine time gold medalist at the Olympics and after his career appeared in multiple television shows and films. As of 2013, Lewis has been the men’s sprints and men’s and women’s horizontal jumps coach, at his alma mater, the University of Houston.

This past month the Simplot Games were held in Pocatello, Idaho and featured an appearance from one of the greatest track and field athletes ever Carl Lewis.
