When Green Bay Packers wide receiver Randall Cobb jumped into the crowd after scoring a touchdown during the Packers 38-17 win against the Carolina Panthers in Week 7 he had no idea that by performing the famous Lambeau Leap that he’d be landing an endorsement deal in the process. However, when a fan accidentally spilled some ketchup on his jersey during his leap it became a blessing in disguise.
As the training staff for the Packers were scrubbing the ketchup off his jersey with toothbrushes on the sidelines the camera panned to them and the announcers commented on how hard it was to get it off, despite their best efforts. That’s when a proverbial light bulb went off above the heads of the marketing team at Clorox. They could use the ketchup on Cobb’s jersey situation to benefit their company.
Over the weekend Clorox capitalized on the situation and put Cobb in an advertising campaign called “Nobody Puts Ketchup On Cobb.” The ad appeared on Instagram with the words, “Clorox 2, for every leap of faith,” obviously eluding to the Lambeau Leap that Cobb took that resulted in him getting dirty. In essence Clorox is saying, anything you do in life that may get your clothes dirty, and when that happens, Clorox will be there to get the stains out.
In the ad Cobb uses his personality and contagious smile to light up the screens of phones and computers everywhere. It’s him doing the selling, and his success that will no doubt sell more bottles of Clorox throughout the season.
