The flag football game was put together by Andrew Saballete, a volunteer at the camp diagnosed with retinoblastoma when he was a child, and Colin Delaney, 15, whose recent leukemia diagnosis resulted in him no longer being able to play football. Together, they put the game together so that Delaney could feel what it was like to play the game he loves again, and for others to be able to get out and enjoy the game as well.
For all of his hard work, Delaney was rewarded with a fun afternoon of football and treated to a very special surprise from two of his favorite Eagles players, LeSean McCoy and Nick Foles, who both showed up unannounced and played catch with him and his buddies on the sidelines prior to the game.
“Best day ever,” Delaney said. “Unexpected and awesome. I’m definitely going to remember this for the rest of my life.”
The Eagles are off to a hot 4-1 start thanks to solid performances by both LeSean McCoy and Nick Foles. After some struggles over the last couple of seasons, both star players have stayed positive and are beginning to see the spoils of their hard work. As the 2014 season continues they hope to continue their on-field success while also contributing to their community and those that support them every Sunday.
