Detroit Pistons legend Joe Dumars is hosting a youth basketball camp for some fun and mentoring at the Joe Dumars Fieldhouse in Detroit which is located on the former State Fairgrounds just off 8 Mile Road. The camp will run every Wednesday through Friday starting on July 8th and going through August 14th, which will provide the kids an opportunity to work on their game skills and interact with a role model who has been to the big league. The camp will also feature speakers, an open discussion, many basketball drills, and several role playing scenarios where the kids will be broken up by age group. There will also be all-star games that are simulated and regulated by age groups at the end of the camp where there will also be trophy giveaways.
The two-time NBA Champion of 1989 and 1990 attended and played for McNeese State College before entering the 1985 NBA Draft where he got picked up by the Detroit Pistons. The six-time NBA All-Star player retired from the game in 1999 as a player, but went on to be a NBA executive where he was voted as the league’s Executive of the Year for the 2002-2003 seasons. Despite not playing basketball anymore, Dumars still has a lot of business projects going on as well as his basketball clinics that he hosts for children.
Dumars will be holding a basketball camp from July 8th through August 14th every Wednesday-Friday. It costs $60 per kid per week to participate, and will offer them lots of practice, tips, and speeches by certain keynote speakers.
