Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin recently spoke at the 8th Annual Mike Tomlin VIP Meet and Greet that took place at the Hampton Roads Convention Center on Friday, July 8th in Hampton, Virginia. At the event, Tomlin took some time to discuss the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation and show his support for the organization, which benefits and works towards making at-risk youths improve their lives and situations. There was a camp put on by the HRYF that was happening at the same time as Tomlin’s event, which made it a more meaningful experience all around.
The Hampton, Virginia native started playing sports in his youth as he played football for his high school, Denbigh High. He then attended the College of William and Mary and played ball there, but eventually ended up going the coaching route starting in 1995. Tomlin coached for various colleges and schools until 2001, when he became the Defensive Backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and stayed with the team for four years until 2005. He then did a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings until landing the position as head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, with whom he is still with today.
Tomlin spoke at his annual event earlier this summer on July 8th to show his support for the Hampton Roads Youth Foundation and it was a huge success, as always. The coach was able to spread his message about how important organizations like this one are in his hometown, and will no doubt be back next year.
