Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stopped by the camp of the Pittsburgh Pirates to give them a little pep talk before the season officially started a few weeks ago. The Pirates are under pressure to make a third consecutive appearance in the playoffs this year, so Tomlin visited to remind them that it is important to never mentally check out of the game. He admitted himself that there are times after the football season where he wants to do other things for a while and not even think about the game. However, it’s important to hang on to your goals and visions for the future in order to ensure that success happens.
The Hampton, Virginia native got his start in sports during his youth when he played football for his high school, Denbigh High. He then attended the College of William and Mary and played ball there, but eventually ended up going the coaching route starting in 1995. Tomlin coached for various colleges and schools until 2001, when he became the Defensive Backs coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and stayed with the team for four years until 2005. He then did a brief stint with the Minnesota Vikings until landing the position as head coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, with whom he is still with today.
Tomlin stopped by the Pittsburgh Pirates camp in order to give them a talk to keep them inspired for the new season this spring. Hopefully the Pirates will be able to make it to the playoffs for a third time for their fans.
