After a stellar career at Dudley High School Sanders went on to star at the University of Minnesota before being drafted in the third round of the 1968 NFL Draft by the Lions. He was the starting tight end for the Lions during his entire 10 year career, retiring in 1977 with 336 career receptions. The NFL has named him to the NFL 1970’s All-Decade Team, and he is also a member of the Detroit Lions 75th Anniversary All Time Team. Currently Sanders serves as a pregame and halftime co-host and sideline reporter of the Detroit Lions preseason games on the Detroit Lions Television Network.
