He ended up getting noticed by the coaches at Lee College in Baytown, Texas by some scouts and transferred to the University of Houston to play for the Cougars on a scholarship. He was selected in the 25th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates 1986 MLB Draft and only stuck around until 1991 before retiring. In 2015 he decided to become the manager of the Texas Rangers and has been working in that role ever since, just after he spent three years as a coach for the Pirates between 2011-2014.
Banister will be speaking at next year’s Fifth Annual First-Pitch Banquet that is supposed to occur on February 4th at the UTSA campus in the University Center Ballroom. Tickets are just $75, so be sure to get them while you can.
