Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was selected to give the spring 2015 commencement speech at Stevenson University on May 21 at the Greenspring campus. During the ceremony he was given an honorary doctorate degree in humane letters, which is about the highest honor one could get if they are involved in culture, society, literature or government areas. During his speech, the 2013 Super Bowl champion coach told the new graduates to never give up on their education, as it is the most important thing that they will have in their lives. In addition to that he emphasized how vital it is to be proud of where you came from and that someday down the road they will run into fellow 2015 graduates and be able to reminisce on the day they were all sharing together.
Harbaugh is the older brother of former NFL player, coach, and current Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh and their father was also a head coach for Western Michigan University and Western Kentucky University. While he is most known for going head to head with his little brother in the Super Bowl XLVII a couple of years ago and winning, he was also a coach to many other teams over the course of his career. These teams include Western Michigan University like his father before him, University of Pittsburgh, Morehead State University, University of Cincinnati, Indiana University, the Philadelphia Eagles and now the Baltimore Ravens with whom he has been with since 2008.
He was the speaker for this year’s graduation ceremony at Stevenson University, and not only was he light-hearted and easy to listen to, but he also really connected with the audience and inspired them to be all that they can be as they move forward in their new futures.
