Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins delivered the keynote at the Jimmy Hitchcock Awards on May 1 at the Frazer United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. At the event, Cousins focused on discussing how his faith and belief in God helped him endure all the challenges in life as well as become as successful as he has been. Attendees who got the opportunity to listen to the Redskins player got to get a bigger insight into what the journey to the NFL was like for someone first hand and everything that he had to work for and sacrifice to get there. The Jimmy Hitchcock Awards are yearly recognition given out to star high school athletes who are just about to enter their college years, and the recipients of this spring’s awards got to get some great advice from a man who has been in their shoes.
The former Michigan State football player is also a native to the state and was picked up by the Washington Redskins in the 2012 draft where he has been ever since. Initially people were a little surprised when Cousins was selected by the team since they had already chosen Robert Griffin III during their first pick, but only after a few games he was injured and Cousins took the field in his place. Cousins was the winner of the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week in November of 2012 and has continued to show his value to his Washington team.
The quarterback gave a very motivating speech at the Jimmy Hitchcock Awards in early May and was able to give some great tips to the future college athletes being honored that night.
