Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins spoke at the Greater Lansing High School Sports Awards that happened on June 7 at the Lansing Center in Michigan. The event began at 6 p.m. and tickets to get in costed $50 per person, and was designed to give recognition to thousands of teenage student athletes for their accomplishments over the most recent school year in 26 different sports. Cousins gave a very motivating talk about the positive impact that being in a sports program makes in a person’s life, as well as some of his favorite stories from the football field. Other prestigious awards such as the Female Athlete of the Year and Male Athlete of the year were also given out.
The former Michigan State football player is also a native to the state and was picked up by the Washington Redskins in the 2012 draft where he has been ever since. Initially people were a little surprised when Cousins was selected by the team since they had already chosen Robert Griffin III during their first pick, but only after a few games he was injured and Cousins took the field in his place. Cousins was the winner of the Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week in November of 2012 and has continued to show his value to his Washington team.
Cousins spoke at this year’s Greater Lansing High School Sports Awards earlier this month and it was a huge honor for all the student athletes and their families to hear words of wisdom from one of the greats.
