Tennis stars Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray spoke out at the ATP World Tour Finals saying that they are all in favor of more drug testing in the sport of tennis. All of them took turns discussing the matter of drug usage in sports and are interesting in promoting a clean image of tennis so that there aren’t any scandals or false wins in their competitions. In addition to that, they remarked at how much prize money is given away these days for some of the tournaments and should a player test positive for anything, it should all have to be returned including the trophy. Murray also mentioned that even more than drug testing, transparency of the issue is what is most important. All three athletes gave some great points and were listened to by the audience members.
Roger Federer is a native of Switzerland and has been playing tennis professionally since 1998. So far his total prize money earnings add up to almost $100 million dollars in his lifetime. He held the number one position in tennis for 302 weeks of his career and has won 17 Grand Slam singles titles.
Rafael Nadal is from Manacor, Spain and has been playing tennis as a pro for 14 years now. As of right now, he is currently ranked as the 5th best tennis player in the world and considered to be the best clay court player ever. Andy Murray was born in Glasgow, Scotland but currently lives in London in the United Kingdom. He turned professional in 2005 and is currently ranked the second best player in the world.
The trio spoke at this year’s ATP World Tour and hoped to bring awareness to the issue of drug use in competitive tennis, and other sports.
