The UConn Huskies’ rookie head coach Kevin Ollie got a great start in his debut with an upset win over Michigan State on Friday night at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The 39-year-old earned his statement win that all first-year coaches desire in their first game as head coach defeating Michigan state by a score of 66-62. Ollie told ESPN, “It’s all about these players because they believed, they didn’t go nowwhere, they stayed loyal to the program. That’s what it’s all about.”
Of all the new coaches, Ollie seems to have the most to prove, with the win definitely making a statement that he wants to showcase the fact that he deserves more than the one-year contract. Some believe that as the team is barred from playing in the postseason, they played so hard because they were fighting for their new coach.
