PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy was in Newcastle, England on Tuesday, October 7 to help officially open the Daisy Lodge, a center that offers free therapeutic short breaks for families affected by cancer. This 3.8 million dollar facility is the first of its kind in Britain and Ireland, and is operated by the Cancer Fund for Children Charity, which McIlroy contributes to on a regular basis.
At the grand opening ceremony McIlroy served as the keynote speaker. When addressing the capacity crowd Rory highlighted some of the aspects of the center and what it meant to be a part of such an amazing day. After his speech he met with cancer patients and their families for photos and to sign autographs. One of the special moments of the day came when he planted a sunflower plaque in the garden outside the center along with one of the young cancer patients that will benefit from the center. It was a truly special day.

This summer he won consecutive titles at The Open Championship, World Golf Championship-Bridgestone Invitational and PGA Championship, adding to two top-2 finishes, 12 top ten finishes, and 17 more top 25 finishes on the season.
