Kansas City Royals outfielder Josh Willingham and his teammates just finished up a tense World Series against the San Francisco Giants in which they unfortunately came out on the losing end, however his journey to the Fall Classic is what will be highlighted during his speaking engagement at the UNA Christian Student Fellowship on Thursday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum.
Willingham, a native of Florence, Alabama, was a two-time All-American and three-year letterman at the University of North Alabama during his college days, and has gone on to have a successful 10-year career in the Major Leagues. At the event he’ll talk about his days at UNA and his journey to the bigs along with how his faith in Christ has helped him on his road to success.
“We are very excited that Josh Willingham will be our dinner speaker this year,” said CSF Director, Danny Pettus. “Josh has been a wonderful Christian example throughout his baseball career. He is a true ambassador for Christ.”
Willingham was not a highly touted first-round pick out of UNA. In fact, in 2000 he was a 17th round pick of the Miami Marlins and had to earn his reputation through hard work, determination, and consistency. However, it did not take him long to get to the big leagues in comparison to most. After just four years in the minors he was called up to the show and he’s been a staple in both the National League and American League ever since.
