ESPN and ABC Anchor Sage Steele returned back to Indianapolis recently to deliver the keynote speech for the Forest Manor Multi-Surface Center’s Champions Awards Luncheon. Her talk was incredibly humble as she told the story of telling her family at age 11 at the dinner table that she was going to one day be on ESPN. Steele attributes her open minded thinking and ability to adapt to many different situations to growing up in a military family that was stationed in countries abroad. Steele took the time to describe many of her experiences in other places that have helped her shape her personality and draw in lots of different opportunities as well.
Steele was born in the Panama Canal Zone and grew up overseas in Greece and Belgium before moving back to the United States and moving to Colorado, then Indiana. Her first reporting job was in South Bend, Indiana where she worked for the CBS affiliate in the area, WSBT-TV. After dabbling with some local sports broadcasting she landed a job with the ABC in Tampa Bay, and over the next few years eventually made her way to her dream job with ESPN. Steele has been on a number of different sports show such as Mike & Mike in the Morning, ESPN First Take, and SportsNation.
Steele delivered a guest speech at this year’s Forest Manor Multi Service Center’s Champions Awards Luncheon back in her old stomping grounds of Indiana. She was a big hit with the audience and hopes to have another reason to go back soon.
