Will ClarkFormer San Francisco Giants‘ first baseman  Will Clark or Will “The Thrill” Clark, will be the keynote speaker for the 8th Annual Eagle Club Recognition Breakfast, which is being hosted by the Choctaw Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Tuesday, February 16th, at the Kahlmus Center, which is located on the campus of MSU Meridian. Doors open at 7 a.m., and the program will be held from 7:30 a.m. until 8:45 a.m.

The New Orleans native, was drafted in 1985 after powering the U.S. Olympic baseball team to a second place finish in the 1984 Summer Olympics as a 20-year-old, Clark put together a ferocious season at the plate for the Mississippi State Bulldogs and won the Golden Spikes Award from USA Baseball – recognizing him as the top college baseball player in the country. In his first-ever “at bat” as a Major League Baseball player, he hit a home run off future Baseball Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan, setting the tone for what would become a career defined by highlight moments and clutch performances. He earned five All-Star appearances, four top-five finishes in the Most Valuable Player award race, and carried his team to an appearance in the 1989 World Series. He also continued his career, signing with the Texas Rangers, following the 1993 season.

The Eagle Club Recognition Banquet serves as the kick-off to launch another great year of Scouting in East Mississippi and West Alabama, and the 2016 Friends of Scouting Campaign. This Campaign serves as the primary funding source for the Council, and provides nearly $240,000 in support each year for the Council’s scouting programs. Clark’s history with being a team player and an American baseball legend is sure to produce an amazing keynote speech for all in attendance.
