Wes WelkerA good motivational speech prior to a big game is always important to get the players in the right state of mind. Prior to the Denver Broncos gridiron battle against the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship game on January 19, Broncos head coach John Fox called in a motivational speaker to help get his players in the zone. The motivational speaker was former Patriot and current Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker.

After serving as Tom Brady’s top target in New England from 2007 to 2012 Welker was the perfect man for the job, and his words inspired his team to a convincing 26-16 victory over the Patriots, sending the Broncos to a February 2 Super Bowl clash with the Seattle Seahawks. Not one to inspire simply with words, Welker also contributed to the victory with his actions on the field, catching four passes for 38 yards.

Welker signed with the San Diego Charges as an undrafted free agent in 2004, and has since become one of the top wide receivers in the game. After being released by the Chargers after just one game into the 2004 season he signed with the Dolphins and went on to break franchise records in total kickoff returns, kickoff return yardage, and total punt returns in just 3 years.

In 2007 he was traded to the Patriots where he starred as a wide receiver from 2007 to 2012, leading the league in receptions in 2007, 2009, and 2011and becoming the first player in NFL history to record three 110 reception seasons and five 100 reception seasons. In 2013 Welker signed a two year, $12 million contract with the Denver Broncos and continues to add to his already long list of Hall of Fame credentials.
