Pittsburgh Steelers legendary running back Jerome Bettis was the guest speaker at the luncheon hosted by the Charlotte Touchdown Club at the Westin Hotel on July 22. After discussing some of his football career, Bettis participated in a Q & A session answering questions about the NFL and football in current times as well as some of his predictions for the upcoming season. During the questioning he also gave his thoughts on what he expects to see from the Carolina Panthers and cam Newton this year, as Bettis believes that the player will be set up for a much better session.
The six-time Pro Bowl player attended and played for the University of Notre Dame before registering and the 1993 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams as the 10th overall pick. The 2001 Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner stayed with the Rams for two years before switching over to the Pittsburgh Steelers for nine years between 1996 and 2005. After from retiring from playing the sport, Bettis got a job as a NBC studio commentator for their Sunday night pregame show “Football Night in America” where he stayed through 2008. In addition to that he opened his own restaurant called “Jerome Bettis’ Grill 36”, and he was nominated to The Pro Football Hall of Fame this year too.
